Well, my wife was right.  She’s been trying to get us up to Baltimore’s  National Aquarium for some time now, and we finally went last weekend.   It was great – just the right speed for a 19-month-old.  Unlike the zoo, where you sometimes have to really look HARD to find the monkey/lion/gorilla/whatever that is in the cage, at the aquarium about 80% of the exhibits had the fishes right there front-and-center for you to see, and even had little steps so that munchkins my daughter’s size could step up and see in.

As you can see here, it was full-on amazement:

Due to how easy it was for my daughter to see each of the fishes and get interested in them, and then move on to the next one – the aquarium had her full attention for about two hours, until she finally ran out of gas.  Absolutely a great way to spend an afternoon.

  1. As a note on this: I just saw someone coming to this article searching for “is baltimore aquarium good for 14 month old”. An important thing to note is that the Baltimore Aquarium does not allow strollers. There are too many stairs and ramps and moving sidewalks and such as you circulate through the exhibits, and it would just not work for strollers.

So, what they do instead, is let you check in your stroller at the front, and they’ll either lend you a Kelty Kids backpack, or a front-mounted Snuggli carrier for your kids.

I do wish we had known this before we went, as we have a BabyBjorn and a Kelty backpack of our own which would have been vastly superior.

    Just a note.
