Healthy Recipes for Kids

Hi as I mentioned before a simple piece of Scientology info I apply (which I know many parents who are not Scientologists also do) is healthy eating for kids. Here’s a great recipe I thought I’d share:

Garden Chowder soup:

Ingredients:

1/2 cup chopped peppers

1/2 cup chopped onion

1 cup each of broccoli, celery, potatoes and carrots (peeled and chopped)

3 cups of chicken broth or veg broth if you’re a vegetarian

1 tsp of salt

1/4 tsp of pepper

1/2 cup flour

2 cups of milk

3 cups shredded cheese

In a soup pot, saute the peppers and onions until tender. Add veggies, chicken broth, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and cover. Simmer for 20 min. Combine flour and milk in separate bowl until smooth. Add to soup gradually and bring it back to a boil. Then reduce heat, cook for 2 more min and add the cheese. Stir to melt and you’re done. A good amount of veggies and very tasty for kids. It’s a nice filling meal. 🙂

  1. That sounds like a yummy soup! We had great luck with chowders and thick soups like that as well with Mackenzie, starting from when she was about 8 months old. We had the good fortune of having Mackenzie’s Grandma buy us a BabyCook, in which we’ve been able to just make baby food out of any soup or similar article, even if it starts out too chunky for babies.

  2. I would love to get your recipes for say chicken soup, beef stew and tomato soup. My kids are older but our whole family LOVES soups and I am always on the lookout for the perfect soup recipe! Thanks for sharing.

    1. Hi Gayla, Sure! Here’s a basic tomato soup:
      Ingredients:
      2 tbsp flour
      2 tbsp butter
      2 cups chicken or veg stock
      1 c milk
      1 15 oz can of tomato sauce or tomato puree
      salt and pepper to taste

      First put the butter in a saucepan, melt it, then add in the flour and stir creating your base. Add in 2 cups of stock, and the tomato sauce or puree. Stir and let simmer for 15 min. Add in the milk and keep stirring for a few minutes, and that’s it. Add in salt and pepper to taste.

      Chicken soup:

      6 cups of chicken stock
      2 whole parsnips peeled and chopped
      4 whole carrots, peeled and chopped
      a handful of fresh dill or a tbsp of dried dill
      3 celery stalks chopped
      1 large onion (yellow is best, but any kind is ok) chopped
      2 lbs of chopped chicken (I use boneless chicken breast but you could also use thighs depends on your taste)
      salt and pepper to taste.

      Chop up all of your veggies and chicken. Put everything into a large pot and bring it to a boil then turn the heat way down and cover it, let it simmer for a couple of hours. That’s it.

      I don’t have a beef stew one, I am not super into beef but those are definitely two good ones and very healthy, not fattening. 🙂 Enjoy!
